GBA 2021 Fall Conference

Save the date and plan to join more than 150 geoprofessional executive level industry leaders for GBA’s 2021 Fall Conference convening October 21-23, 2021 at the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort in Henderson, Nevada.  This two-and-a-half-day conference will offer premier programming on key topics as well as networking and social events allowing attendees the opportunity to build lasting personal and professional relationships with major industry stakeholders.

If you answered yes to any of the above then, the Geoprofessional Business Association invites you to submit an abstract for consideration for GBA’s Fall Conference scheduled for October 21-23, 2021 at the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort in Henderson, Nevada.

NOTICE: While we fully anticipate holding an in-person conference, GBA will continue communicating with our members and monitoring CDC guidelines to ensure a favorable experience for all whether in-person or virtual.

The Conference Theme:


As we enter the post-pandemic world and have the opportunity to gather together after a long period of separation, GBA will reunite in person to learn, collaborate, network, renew friendships, celebrate successes, and meet with fellow geoprofessionals from across North America.

We will do what GBA members have done for more than 50 years identify emerging opportunities, solve common problems, and strive to improve our businesses and elevate our profession. We will reconnect as a community, share experiences, and plan for the future.

Reuniting at this conference will bring us back to the basics of what GBA does best. We will focus onbbusiness & educational resources, specifically risk management and business performance optimization for geoprofessional firms.
Presentations by subject matter experts may include:

Silver Lining – Our experiences during the pandemic and other global events have provided opportunities for us to improve business performance and grow as leaders.

Best Practices – We have a long history of giving guidance on geoprofessional business practice issues that help our members manage risk and optimize performance while simultaneously elevating the profession.

Case Histories – Providing real-world learning examples related to project and business management is a hallmark of GBA so we can learn.

Emerging Issues – As we look to the future, we look for insights on emerging issues and trends that will shape the geoprofessional business climate and provide opportunities for advancement, growth, and prosperity for member firms.

How You Will Benefit

GBA’s twice-a-year conferences are where senior business leaders within the geoprofessional-industry come to engage and share their knowledge. As a presenter, you will gain visibility and credibility; create important new relationships; and generate valuable awareness of your expertise in our industry. Additionally, you will learn from other subject matter experts also presenting at the conference.

The Selection Template

Complete the Abstract Submission Form.
o Make sure to include at least three (3) key learning objectives.
o Include a detailed bio for each presenter for your abstract.
o Submit the form and any additional word documents (for additional speaker bios) via e-mail to [email protected] by Friday, April 9, 2021.

Guideline for Speaker Biographies

Biographies provide a high-level view of presenter’s career and major business accomplishments. Please make sure to include the following for each presenter for your abstract.

• Full name, designations, job title and firm name
• Description of the presenter’s role within his/her firm and services that the firm provides.
• Career highlights as it relates to the presenter’s current position and previous positions (if appropriate)
• Degrees, certifications, awards, recognitions, published works

Important Deadline Dates:

Friday, April 9, 2021 – Submission deadline for all abstracts
Monday, May 10, 2021 – Notification made to accepted abstract presenters
Monday, May 17, 2021 – Final session description due from accepted abstract presenters
Friday, October 1, 2021 – Final PowerPoint presentation due from accepted abstract presenters

Friday, October 1, 2021 – Final PowerPoint presentation due from accepted abstract presenters

Evaluation Criteria

GBA’s Program Committee will evaluate abstracts on overall topic, content quality and how it relates to the conference theme, educational value, clearly identified objectives, relevance to the audience, practical application of material, and the qualifications of the speaker.

GBA will award Professional Development Hours (PDHs).

All reservations must be guaranteed by a valid major credit card, which must be supplied at the time the reservation is made.  Regardless of how the reservation is made, any guaranteed reservation not cancelled 72-hours prior to arrival will be subject to one night’s room and tax cancellation fee.  In addition, attendee that fails to arrive on the scheduled arrival date will be considered a “No Show” and a charge of one night’s room and tax will be posted to the individual attendee’s credit card on file.

Upon check-in, each guest will be required to present a valid credit card, on which an amount of sufficient pre-authorization can be obtained to cover the room, tax charges and possible miscellaneous charges.

  • Hotel Reservation Changes and Cancellations: The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort has a 72-hour room reservation cancellation policy. Room reservation cancellations received less than 72-hours prior to arrival will be subject to one night’s room/tax cancellation.
  • Please Note: In-order-to minimize any charges to you, your firm, or to GBA, if you need to cancel your room reservation, please do so in a timely manner directly with the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort so that the guest room nights can be re-sold to other GBA guests. If you have questions, contact GBA staff – Barb ([email protected]) or Sara ([email protected]) even if you have to cancel late so that GBA can try to assign your guest room to someone else.
  • Check-in / Check-out Times: Check-in time is 4:00 PM; check-out time is 11:00 AM. If you plan to arrive earlier than 4:00PM, call the hotel directly on your arrival day and ask the front desk attendant if there are any rooms available allowing you to check-in early. The Geoprofessional Business Association and the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort cannot guarantee check-in before 4:00 PM. Requests for late check-out on your departure day may be limited and is at the discretion of the Hotel.
  • Early Departure Fee/Policy: The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort has an Early Departure Fee/Policy; i.e., if you reserve to depart on the 23rd, but leave a day early, you will be charged for the night you “missed” at the group room rate plus tax, unless you make arrangements with the hotel’s front desk manager in advance or advise the front desk staff at the time you check-in. Emergency and other special circumstance situations will be reviewed by the hotel on a case by case basis.
  • Beware of unauthorized hotel booking and housing agencies (Poachers): GBA is not affiliated or contracted with any outside hotel contracting company. If someone other than GBA staff or GBA’s chosen hotel (Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort) contacts you and suggests that they represent any GBA event, they do NOT. It is GBA’s recommendation that you book your hotel guest room directly with the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort. Don’t be scammed! A refund (less $150/per person administrative fee) will be given to individuals whose cancellations are received by 5:00PM Eastern Time, Friday, September 24, 2021. For cancellations received after that date, but not later than 5:00PM Eastern Time, Friday, October 8, 2021, the cancellation fee will be $275/per person, for administration, food service and related guarantee charges that GBA will have to absorb. No refund or credit may be given after 5:00PM on Friday, October 8, 2021.

Please note: GBA may charge an individual whatever GBA has to pay the hotel (in attrition fees) if you fail to cancel a room reservation in a timely manner and GBA is unable to assign the room to someone else. Be sure to notify Barb ([email protected]) or Sara ([email protected]) even if you have to cancel late so that GBA can at least try to mitigate any additional charges.
