GBA Legacy Materials Now Available Free

Now available on the GBA website, free of charge, a fabulous archive of leadership lessons, based on interviews, panel discussions, and presentations at GBA’s 2003 Fall Meeting in Monterey, California. Originally developed on GBA’s behalf by the Engineers’ Leadership Foundation, the material was designed to help leaders of the future learn from leaders of the past, given that being a leader today requires much of the same knowledge it did 25, 50, even 1,000 years ago. We have much to learn from those who came before us – their mistakes and successes alike. The participants in Monterey were some of the most illustrious of GBA’s founders:

• Alfred C. Ackenheil, Ph.D., P.E.;
• Harl P. Aldrich, Sc.D., P.E.;
• Elio D’Appolonia, Ph.D., P.E.;
• Edward B. Howell, J.D.;
• Bramlette McClelland, D.Eng., P.E.; and
• James J. Schnabel, P.E.
In one-on-one interviews, and during panel discussions, they respond to
questions posed by GBA Executive Vice President John Bachner. Together,
they explore the roots of leadership, responding to questions like:
• You are or were a leader. Why? What (and/or who) did you have that
it took?
• As a professional in business, what were the most important lessons
you learned?
• Who was your hero and why?
• What do you know now that you wish you knew when you were 25? 35? 45?
Special presentations covered:
• “The Evolution of Geotechnical Engineering: A Personal Perspective”;
• “ASFEPeer Review: The Genesis”;
• “The ASFE Council of Fellows: In the Beginning”; and
• “ASFE and Terra Insurance Company: The Early Years.”
Each interview, panel discussion, and presentation is on its own DVD. Order these great materials now. Just go to, click to Publications/ Materials, then select the “Legacy Materials” category.
