The Geoprofessional Business Association (GBA) is led by a Board of Directors of 6-9 people. The Association's current Board of Directors comprises:
Laura R. Reinbold, P.E.
Laura ReinboldMs. Reinbold is the director of client development of Terracon. She has been in the engineering profession for more than 30 years. Before serving on the GBA Board of Directors, she chaired the GBA Education Committee. She serves on committees for ACEC, the Urban Land Institute, and the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, and on the Tennessee Architects and Engineering Licensing Board. She is a frequent speaker and lecturer on consulting and client development. Ms. Reinbold holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Vanderbilt University and is a licensed professional engineer and a LEED Accredited Professional.
Charles L. Head, P.E., P.G.
Charlie HeadMr. Head is the CEO of Sanborn, Head & Associates, Inc., a multidisciplinary, New Hampshire-based firm serving industry, development, solid-waste, and energy clients nationally and internationally. Licensed as both a professional engineer and a professional geologist, Mr. Head has 30 years of professional experience with a focus on groundwater engineering. He has been active in GBA for more than a decade, most recently as chair of GBA’s Emerging Issues and Trends Committee. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees in geology (St. Lawrence University) and civil engineering (University of New Hampshire) and a Master of Science degree in civil engineering from Colorado State University.
Woodward L. Vogt, P.E., D.GE, F.ASCE, F.ACI, F. ASTM
Woody VogtMr. Vogt is president of Paradigm Consultants, Inc. in Houston. He has more than 40 years’ experience providing geotechnical, construction materials and investigative and forensic engineering services. Mr. Vogt is a Diplomate of Academy of Geo-Professionals and a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, ACI International, and ASTM International. He participates in committee activities of ACI International and ASTM and currently is chair of ASTM E36 - Accreditation and Certification. Before joining the GBA Board of Directors, Mr. Vogt was a founding member of the GBA Construction Materials Engineering and Testing (CoMET) Committee and chaired the GBA Accreditation and Certification Task Force. He serves on the board of directors of the International Council for Certification of Construction Inspectors and is past board chair of the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation. He is vice president of TCEL/Geoprofessionals Serving Texas and past president of the Houston Chapter of TCEL. Mr. Vogt received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology (“Georgia Tech”) and is a licensed professional engineer in Texas and Louisiana. A contributor to many GBA publications, Mr. Vogt’s most recent paper Moist-Curing Room Design, Construction and Maintenance was published by the GBA CoMET Business Council.
Tom Blackburn, P.E., G.E., F.ASCE
Tom BlackburnTom Blackburn, P.E., G.E., F.ASCE and his wife, Grace, formed Blackburn Consulting, Inc. in 1998. As president of his firm, Tom has helped build an outstanding 45-person, 4-office firm. Tom has a passion for Geotechnical engineering and he works hard to enhance it through continuing education for all staff, professional association involvement and ethical professional practices. Tom is proud of his continuous involved in GBA since 1992. Tom believes in the “golden rule” and he treats employees, clients and professional colleagues with dignity and respect.
Arthur G. Hoffmann, P.E., D.GE
Art HoffmannArt Hoffmann, P.E., D.GE, is a shareholder and Executive Vice President of Gannett Fleming, Inc. and serves as the Chief Administrative Officer and as a member of the Board of Directors. Art is responsible for Gannett Fleming's corporate leadership programs and project management training programs. Prior to assuming this position, Art lead the 100 person Pittsburgh regional office. Art started the first geotechnical practice group in a regional office in Pittsburgh in 1992. He's been with Gannett Fleming since 1986.
Kenneth R. Johnston
Ken JohnstonKenneth R. Johnston is a principal at GZA GeoEnvironmental and the firm’s chief administrative officer. He previously served as GZA’s senior vice president, responsible for risk management, contracts, and real estate and, before that, was the firm’s vice president of operations. Mr. Johnston holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Norwich University. He earned his master’s degree in business administration at New Hampshire College. Before joining GZA, Mr. Johnston spent several years at Sanders Associates/Lockheed in New Hampshire; he is a graduate of the firm’s prestigious financial-management training program. He subsequently became co-owner of Allstate Polyethylene Corporation. An avid bicyclist, Mr. Johnston has completed the Pan Mass Challenge for 25 consecutive years, raising more than $170,000 for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He is actively involved in the Board of Fellows at the Business & Management School at Norwich University, currently serving as the Board’s chairman.
Kimberly F. Morrison, P.E., R.G.
Kimberly MorrisonPresident of Morrison Geotechnical Solutions, Inc. in Lakewood, Colorado, Ms. Morrison has been active in GBA leadership since 2007, serving on the New Leaders’ Committee, Practice Education Committee, and the Education Committee, which she chaired in 2012 and 2013. She holds a BS in geological engineering from the Missouri University of Science & Technology and an MS in civil-geotechnical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Ms. Morrison has 17 years’ experience with a variety of geotechnical, civil, environmental, and construction projects, many involving the environmentally responsible design of mine-waste facilities for clients worldwide. Her consulting specialty is the management of large, interdisciplinary mining projects that require high levels of team coordination, cost and schedule control, and frequent interaction with decision makers.
Alex Sy, Ph.D., P.Eng.
Alex SyVice president of Klohn Crippen Berger Ltd. in Vancouver, BC, Dr. Sy is responsible for risk management, quality, and health and safety. His 35+ years’ experience includes site characterizations, soft-ground engineering, ground improvement, foundation design, and construction observation for heavy civil and industrial facilities, earth and mine-tailings dams, and transportation infrastructures. Long active in GBA, Dr. Sy is now completing a term as chair of the Business Practices Committee. He has authored more than 50 technical papers and has presented at many engineering conferences. He is also an adjunct professor in the civil engineering department at the University of British Columbia.
