Guy Marcozzi, P.E., D.GE, LEED AP BD+C

Guy’s engineering career began in 1984 as a construction/drafting technician at Duffield Associates, a geosciences consulting firm. Following graduation from University of Delaware, he continued with the firm, evolving his position through the years as a structural engineer, geotechnical engineer, civil engineer, project manager and division leader for the Geotechnical, Construction and Water Resources divisions. In 1994, he became a partner in the firm, and in 2000 was named Vice President /Director of Operations. In 2008, Guy was promoted to President of Duffield Associates and became Chief Executive Officer in 2011. By 2020, the firm has doubled in size with industry leading metrics. After leading a strategic planning process broadly including the firm’s leadership, Duffield Associates concluded that the collective future would be best served assimilating into a national organization and joined a private equity based start-up Verdantas in 2021. Guy has remained on with Verdantas in a variety of roles including Executive Vice President, National Practice Group Leader and currently as a part time Senior Consultant.
Guy earned his professional licensure in 1990, and at one time had professional registration in 12 states. He also earned his accreditation as a LEED AP in 2008, and is currently accredited as a LEED AP/ Building Design and Construction (LEED AP/ BD+C). Guy is nationally recognized as an ASCE Fellow for his contributions to the profession. He was honored by the Delaware Council of Engineering Societies as the first Delaware Young Engineer of the Year in 2000 and subsequently, Delaware’s Engineer of the Year in 2012. He is also a Diplomate of the GeoInstitute. He was also recognized as the University of Delaware’s Civil Engineering Alumni of the Year in 2021.
He has been an active participant in many Delaware engineering organizations including service as President in several of these organizations; Delaware Engineering Society, Delaware Association of Professional Engineers and American Society of Civil Engineers – Delaware Section. He is also a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and as well as a voting member of the ASTM Committees on Sustainability and on Soil and Rock. Guy has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Delaware – College of Engineering, served on the ABET Accreditation Committee, the Civil and Environmental Engineering Advisory Council and appointed by two Dean’s to the Engineering College’s Advisory Council and University’s Public Affairs and Grounds and Buildings Committees.
He has also remained continuously active in his community. Guy is a Trustee of the University of Delaware and was appointed by the Governor and presently serves on the Delaware Economic and Financial Advisory Council, was legislatively confirmed to the Delaware Environmental Appeal Board, serves on the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors/. He has previously served on the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce, Government Affairs Committee and as Chair of the Business Development Committee for its Economic Development Council. He is Chair of Easter Seals Society Delaware Maryland (ESSD-M) property holding company, past Chair and current board member of Multiplying Good Delaware (formerly the Jefferson Awards) and also past Chair of the Delaware’s American Heart Association. He served for many years as the President of his community civic association and as Vice President of the Board of Trustees at Sanford School. Guy also spent many years with youth sports including President and licensed coach for the Delaware Rush Soccer Club (aka Hockessin Soccer Club), where he was recognized as Administrator of the Year, and was a long-time coach for CYM basketball.
